Johor Transportation Guide
Johor offers a mix of transportation options, including buses, taxis, and the upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link. While the state doesn’t have an LRT system like Kuala Lumpur, efforts are underway to enhance connectivity and improve travel experiences for residents and visitors alike.
1. Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ)
The Johor state government is actively working on integrating various transportation systems to boost economic potential. One significant project is the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, which will connect Johor Bahru with Singapore. This link is part of the proposed T-shaped integrated transport network that also includes the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project and a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in Iskandar Malaysia. However, financial viability remains a concern due to high costs and other pressing priorities for the federal government.
2. Public Transportation Options in Johor Bahru
- Buses: The public bus service called myBas, operated by Syarikat Handal Indah, serves Johor Bahru and its suburbs. However, some commuters have experienced worsening services, including delays and congestion during peak hours.
- Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link: This transit system connects Johor Bahru with Singapore, providing an efficient way to travel between the two cities.
- Taxis: Taxis are available for point-to-point travel within Johor Bahru.
- Other Modes: While there isn’t an LRT system like in Kuala Lumpur, the state government’s efforts aim to address connectivity issues and enhance transportation options.
